Size comparison with the older modem |
As the name suggests, the device comes with 4G LTE-A Category 6 connection. So, it has carrier aggregation tech that combines two radio frequency bands to deliver larger bandwidths. It is simply designed to achieve up to 2x the speed and better overall reliability versus the older PHP 995 PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid unit.
It also supports the dual-band WiFi 802.11 n/ac (2.4GHz/5GHz).
The device also highlights a bigger body and 2x antenna slots for better signal reception. In our test, the WiFi range of this device is also wider compared to PLDT's previous generation prepaid modem.
We unboxed and tested the device, so check it out below:

Quick thoughts
While it is chunkier and it takes more space, the new PLDT Home WiFi Prepaid Cat6 Modem is clearly faster and better with a more stable connection than its older-gen variant.
The signal strength in your area will still play a very important role, but at least, it has wider signal reception than most WiFi units we had with older LTE categories in the past.
