Ready for March 2021 commercial launch

As of December 8, the challenger to the duopoly of Globe and PLDT had already 1,900 cell towers.

Previously, the company said it needed to have at least 1,300 base stations to meet the targets of 37 percent population coverage, delivering 27 megabits per second (Mbps).

During a Senate hearing, its chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said the number was "more than enough" for DITO's first-year operations in the market.

The group, backed by Dennis Uy of Davao and state-run China Telecommunications, is slated to commercially launch by March 2021.

For 2021, DITO is eyeing to initially tap the markets of Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.

Under its committed period, the small telco has to deliver 27 Mbps of speed in the first year, and 55 Mbps for the succeeding years. In terms of coverage, the group promised 37.03 percent for the first year in the market, expanding to 84.01 percent in the fifth year.
