Snapdragon 888 details!

On the CPU department, Snapdragon 888 is the first to use ARM's (Prime) Cortex-X1 super core clocked at 2.84GHz. This core can execute 33 percent more instructions per clock versus the Cortex-A78. It even has double the SIMD hardware, L1, and L3 caches.

Then, Cortex-X1 is paired with a cluster of three (3) Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and four (4) Cortex-A55 efficiency cores to complete its octa-core setup. Qualcomm noted that the CPU is also equipped with 4MB of L3 cache and 3MB of system cache.

This new Kryo 680 CPU has up to 25 percent performance and a 25 percent power efficiency boost coming from Snapdragon 865.

For GPU, it has the new Adreno 660 GPU with up to 35 percent faster graphics rendering, 20 percent better power efficiency, and display enhancements such as OLED display uniformity, picture quality improvements, and demura/sub-pixel rending.

It also has the Variable Rate Shading that increases performance by up to 30 percent, game Quick Touch to reduce touch latency by 20 percent up 120fps, 10-bit HDR support, and sub-pixel rendering.

For cameras, it is the first with a triple ISP (Spectra 580) on a Qualcomm chip allowing 3 separate cameras to be processed at the same time. It can handle 3 4K HDR video streams or capture 3 28MP photos at the same time. It can also record 10-bit HDR photos in HEIF format, play 4K videos at 120fps, and snap 120 photos per second at 12MP.

This chip also features the Snapdragon X60 integrated 5G modem which supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G. It has up to 7.5 Gbps uplinks and uplinks up to 3 Gbps.

It also uses the FastConnect 9000 system featuring the WiFi 6G with up to 3.6 Gbps speeds and Bluetooth 5.2 with dual antennas and aptX.

For AI, it has the 6th generation AI Engine with the new Hexagon 780 that delivers 26 TOPS performance and up to 3x better performance per Watt power efficiency.

Snapdragon 888 is also the first mobile chip to comply with the Content Authenticity Initiative standards. It also features the Hypervisor feature to allow multiple OSes to run on the same hardware.

Lastly, it uses the Quick Charge 5.0 tech that can handle up to 100W+ fast charging support with backward compatibility.
