Universal Studios Japan Super Nintendo World with Mario Kart ride to open on Feb 4, 2021!

Nintendo and Universal Studios Japan shares details about the new Super Nintendo World theme park that is scheduled to open on February 4, 2021!

In 2017, Nintendo and Universal Studios Japan announced that the next theme park expansion for the Universal Studios Japan will be Super Nintendo World. It will be the latest theme park area at the Universal Studios Japan in Osaka and is currently under construction. 

Several days ago, Nintendo shared more details about the park and that the theme park will finally open on February 4, 2021. This new theme park will include dining and shopping areas that are based on popular Nintendo IPs and franchises. 

Bowser's Castle where the ride begins

One of the biggest attraction is that Nintendo and Universal Studios will bring Mario Kart to life with a the new Mario Kart ride: Koopa's Challenge that will begin inside Bowser's castle and will be using Augmented Reality headsets. These AR headsets are shaped like Mario's cap.

Bloomberg reporter Kurumi Mori shares that each kart carries four seats with individual sterring wheels. The Karts are on rails and the riders are given a 'some' control so that riders can collect items and throw shells like in the Mario Kart video game. The ride will take Mario Kart fans thru multiple levels that include lava and underwater themed worlds and the famous Rainbow Road.

Players will wear magnetic wristbands in the park which will allow people to engage the park's different 'levels' that add up with scores.

The Park was initially scheduled to open earlier but was delayed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Universal Studios Japan reopened last June 8 at a limited capacity and will continue to take special measures because of the ongoing pandemic. Social Distancing and extra sanitization for the rides and areas.
