Globe Telecom said the recognition was a "huge feat" for an emerging market economy, which seeks to have a first-world network infrastructure.

The Ayala-led telco claimed it has been "a steady supporter" of the current admin's target to further boost the local connectivity.

Ranking among APEC countries is a huge feat and shows that our investments and network improvements are bearing fruit. We will continue to make 4G and 5G as pervasive as possible to meet the demand of our customers for better connectivity, said Ernest Cu, Globe’s President, and Chief Executive Officer.

To recap, Globe was the first telco carrier to introduce 5G services to its home subscribers last July 2019. It then expanded its commercial service to mobile users. Last month, it cemented its position in the local 5G space as its network now covers 80 percent of Metro Manila.

According to Globe, 5G delivers faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and more stable internet connections compared to 4G.

Coco Domingo, Globe VP for Postpaid and International, earlier said the local market will continue to witness more 5G-compatible devices.
