Ookla: Philippines' global Mobile rank is up by 3 slots and 8 spots for Fixed Broadband in February 2021

According to the latest Ookla Speedtest Global Index, the Philippines' Mobile and Fixed Broadband internet continues to improve.

Internet in the Philippines continues to improve!

To recap, Ookla tracks the ranking of mobile and fixed broadband speeds around the world on a monthly basis.

For the month of February, the Philippines' Mobile rank is up by 3 slots. From rank number 86 in January, the country's rank is up to number 83. Ookla's data showed that the average mobile download speed in the country is 26.24 Mbps while the upload speed is 6.42 Mbps.

On the other hand, the country's Fixed Broadband rank is up by 8 countries to number 92 from number 100. It has an average download speed of 38.82 Mbps and an upload speed of 36.96 Mbps.

For Mobile, the Philippines rank is now higher than Iran. It continues to be higher than notable countries like Malaysia and Russia.

For Fixed Broadband, the country is now ahead of Uzbekistan, Jamaica, and Greece.

To recap, the government has cut the processing of securing permits for the deployment of towers. The government has implemented the Ease of Doing Business Act or the Republic Act 11032 to assist the telcos.

Both Globe Telecom and PLDT are targeting to deploy 4,000 cell sites this 2021. 

This 2021, PLDT said that it will invest up to PHP 92 billion for network expansion this year. Globe, on the other hand, has PHP 70 billion. Most of that fund will be used for network upgrades.

Third player DITO is now official and operational as well.

Fixed Broadband players like SKY Fiber and Converge ICT are expected to improve their services this year as well.
