TCL has unveiled a new prototype of a smartphone with a rollable display that could be folded as well.
Dubbed as the Fold 'n Roll, TCL said that the handset is a smartphone, phablet, and tablet in one.
By default, it is closer to a regular smartphone with a 6.87-inch display. When unfolded, it extends to 8.85-inch—this is massive for a foldable smartphone. It has an outward folding device which means that when folded, the back of the device will be vulnerable to scratches.
But, TCL reportedly reached out to partners to find a way to use a more durable glass screen instead of plastic.
When you access the rollable mechanism, it extends to a 10-inch big tablet.
So basically, what TCL is trying to achieve is an all-in-one device with a display that could be great for both multimedia consumption and multitasking.
To make this possible, TCL has combine next-gen hinges and mechanics.
Basically, this is clearly more advanced than what the company showed in March of 2020.
However, don't expect this to arrive in stores soon. TCL said that it will take some time before devices like this will become available to the public.
TCL will launch a simpler device with a flexible screen later this year.
