Instead of being a standalone operating system, the Windows 10X features will be integrated within the main Windows 10 OS. In fact, Microsoft has already implemented some of these features on the Windows Insider preview builds such as the new app container technology for Windows Defender, improved Voice Typing, and an updated touch keyboard with key sizing, sounds, colors, and animations.

As a recap, Windows 10X was designed to be a stripped-down version of Windows 10 meant for dual-screen devices such as the Microsoft Surface Neo. Down the line, Microsoft announced that it will be shifted to be made for single-screen budget laptops. A demo surfaced back in January 2021 too.

The 21H1 update for Windows 10, on the other hand, is still rolling out as a minor update and as a preparation for a larger update scheduled for an October launch.
