Samsung to enter laptop processor market with a new Exynos chip in H2 2021

A new Samsung Exynos laptop chip is expected to debut in the second half of 2021. The laptop will be the first Windows PC to have a custom chip.

According to sources, the Samsung Exynos chip will be usable for both smartphones and laptops. This is understandable since the laptop processor has a System on a Chip design the is made to support applications in a mobile operating system.

The new Exynos chip for laptops will use a GPU made alongside AMD. This is great news since AMD has been on a roll in terms of its Ryzen CPUs. The GPU will be designed to offer a huge improvement in graphical technology. The chip will also use a 5nm process to make it smaller and suitable for both laptops and smartphones.

Samsung seems to see the potential in the laptop market and is following other companies in this movement. In November 2020, Apple launched its own M1 chip for desktops and laptops. The M1 chip has been used in its MacBooks and iPad. Qualcomm also launched its Snapdragon 8cx way back in 2018. The company is said to be currently making a third-generation Snapdragon 8cx SoC.
