Huawei Watch GT 3 |
Huawei continues to release multiple new wearables over the past year. The latest is the new Huawei Watch GT 3 that promises a solid build, eye-catching design, and enduring battery life.
In part 1 of our review, we shared our unboxing and hardware impressions of the new smartwatch. We mentioned that the hardware and design are top-notch and that it could be a great option for people looking for larger-sized smartwatches.
For our review part 1: Huawei Watch GT 3 46mm Unboxing and First Impressions
How does it perform in real-world use?
Let's find out here!
Display Quality
|
Watch GT 3 Display |
It features a 1.43-inch AMOLED color touch display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels at 326 ppi. At maximum brightness, the panel is readable under direct sunlight. The panel responds to taps and gestures quickly and accurately. We almost never experience mistaps or incorrect actions to gestures.
Around the display is the ruled bezel with increments of 5. It does not rotate.
Battery
Inside the Watch GT 3 is a 455mAh battery that charges wirelessly. It takes under 120 minutes to fully charge the internal battery from 0 to 100 percent.
In our four weeks of experience with the Watch GT 3 46mm, we would wear the watch for a full 24 hour day even when we were asleep. It consistently managed to last 7 to 8 days without charging.
On heavier days with constant monitoring of steps, temperature, stress, SpO2, exercise/workout, and sleep, the Watch GT 3 was able to last a total of 5 days.
Huawei advertises over 14 days of battery life but we never reached that when the key health monitoring features are turned on constantly. It may reach 14 days when most of the features are not used.
It mainly charges thru the included charging cradle but it supports wireless charging pads or power banks.
Performance
|
App drawers |
The touch screen, command bezel, and hardware buttons all respond quickly and accurately.
When at the Home screen, pressing the crown launches the app drawer. When in any other app or feature, pressing the crown takes the user to the home screen.
In the app drawer, all of the features are easy to access while tapping and dragging around the drawer.
|
Huawei Health app |
To set up the watch, users are prompted to download and connect the Watch GT 3 with the Huawei Health app. The app allows for quick access to health metrics, watch faces, watch features and watch settings.
|
Exercises |
It includes monitoring for the following workouts: Outdoor Run, Indoor Run, Outdoor Walk, Indoor Walk, Outdoor Cycle, Indoor Cycle, Pool Swim, Open Water Swim, Mountain Hike, Hike, Trail Run, Skipping, Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross-country skiing, Triathlon, Cross-Trainer, Rower, Other, and custom.
|
Indoor Run stats |
Due to the current situation, we were only able to use the Indoor run and it managed to measure our steps, heart rate, pace, and duration. It also analyzes the workouts over time (day, weeks, months) to give insights into the user's performance and health status.
Our only concern is that the step counter detects steps when we were not walking but just moving our left hand. The step counter isn't that accurate.
|
Skin Temperature and Stress monitoring |
The Watch can be set to monitor the skin temperature and the stress of the user manually or automatically at a set interval. It also collects data and displays the information over time.
It is worth noting that the stress and skin temperature is a good indicator of the range but is not super accurate. It is still best to consult with a health professional when an abnormal reading is found.
|
Sleep monitoring |
The sleep monitoring feature is more robust. It records the data of your sleep and breaks them down in stages while offering an analysis of the night's sleep. What is key is that it measures the duration of each of the four stages of sleep. It also offers a different analysis depending on the time frame (Day, Week, Month, Year).
Robust sleep monitoring feature!
The Health app also has a wide selection of stock Watch Faces with access more via the Huawei App Gallery store.
Overall, our experience with the Huawei Watch GT 3 is one of the best smartwatch experiences we've had from Huawei. This is great for HarmonyOS fans.
The Huawei Health app is available in the app stores of Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS.
Pros - Solid build quality, standard strap size makes it compatible with third-party straps, eye-catching design, 7-day battery, extensive health and exercise monitor and recording, GPS
Cons - Best used with HarmonyOS devices, the 14-day battery is achieved with a lot of battery saving features that turn off key health features
