To prevent Windows users from downloading Google Chrome, Microsoft has stepped up its campaign to keep people using its built-in browser Edge.
Microsoft: That browser (Google Chrome) is so 2008
Edge or Chrome?

Microsoft's new efforts to promote Edge

Those who are running Windows 10 and 11 have started seeing prompts when users go to the Chrome download page to discourage people from installing it.

Some of the new prompts are:

That browser is so 2008! Do you know what's new? Microsoft Edge
That browser is so 2008! Do you know what's new? Microsoft Edge

"Microsoft Edge runs on the same technology as Chrome, with added trust of Microsoft."
"That browser is so 2008! Do you know what's new? Microsoft Edge."
"I hate saving money,' said no one ever. Microsoft Edge is the best browser for online shopping."

To be fair, Microsoft placed a lot of effort in making Edge a pretty good overall browser. It has an improved interface and a way better performance than the old internet explorer. There are claims and tests showing that it is as much a RAM hog as Google Chrome as well.

Google is also occasionally sending pop-ups and prompts when using its search engine or other services. But at least, Google has an option to reject the pop-up, unlike Microsoft.

Both browsers have their own charms and advantages over each other. It should be up to us, the users, to decide.
