A new killer mid-range chip for phones next year!
Dimensity 8000 is the lower-end sibling of the flagship 4nm Dimensity 9000 chip. According to MediaTek, the chip will be fabbed on TSMC's 5nm process. |
BBK's realme and Xiaomi's Redmi brand are the first two brands that might use the new chip |
Most Dimensity 1000 series chips are fabbed under 6nm, so 5nm is still an upgrade even if it won't be as cutting edge as 4nm.
The chip will also use an older ARMv8 architecture featuring 4x 2.75GHz Cortex-a78 power cores and 4x Cortex-A55 cores. It will be paired with the Mali-G510 MC6 which is said to be twice as fast and 22 percent more power-efficient than older ARM GPUs.
The chip also supports up to 168Hz screens at FHD+ resolution, up to LPDDR5 RAM, and up to UFS 3.1 internal storage.
The rest of the missing details are still unknown for now. It is safe to say that the chip will be available in phones in 2022 (next year).
Reportedly, realme and Xiaomi are interested to use the upcoming chip for their 2022 phones. Leaker Digital Chat Station said that realme GT Neo3 and Redmi K50 series will use the Dimensity 8000. We might also see fierce competition between the two alleged upcoming smartphones.
