Finally! DITO Telecommunity now has 5G—releases 5G home WiFi

Nearly a year after its commercial launch, the country's official third major telco player DITO Telecommunity finally launched its 5G service.

Finally, DITO now has 5G!

The telco said that its 5G services will first be available through a pilot program in 146 barangays in Metro Manila (Manila, Caloocan, and Quezon City) with the rollout of its 5G home WiFi device.

The device

DITO is boasting that with the DITO 5G Home WIFI Starter Kit, its users can experience download speeds of up to 500 Mbps.

This device has support for 5G and backward compatibility to 4G. It also has a Network Signal Strength Indicator. Red means poor signal quality, Yellow is medium signal quality, and Green is good signal quality.

To recap, 5G is the latest mobile connectivity standard designed to deliver up to 100x faster speeds than 4G.

The starter kit is available at DITO Experience Stores in SM Manila, SM North EDSA in Quezon City, Robinson’s Galleria in Quezon City, and in Greenhills.

It will also come with 50GB open-access data valid for 30 days, a bonus 3-month subscription to HBO GO, and double data promos valid for 30 days (with DITO Rewards and data rollover). 

There is no mention if DITO will release an unlimited 5G promo like its competitors Globe and Smart yet though. There is no info on when will the company make 5G available to its subscribers with 5G-ready smartphones yet as well.

the promo period for the double data promo will be from Feb. 28 to May 31.
