At the ongoing MWC 2022 in Barcelona, Spain, Chinese tech giant OPPO unveiled its latest sustainability achievements showcasing its "Green Technologies".

During the event, the company highlighted its achievements in integrating sustainability and eco-friendly concepts into its entire product lifecycle. OPPO also stressed that it is committed to its brand mission of "Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World".

According to the company, the brand is implementing the internationally recognized "3R+1D" sustainable packaging principles. The group will also stick to reducing weight and use recyclable and biodegradable materials in its packaging.

OPPO boasts that it has successfully reduced the amount of packaging used for its smartphones by 24 percent versus 2019 in the European market. Approximately 45 percent of this packaging was made using recycled fiber, and the overall plastic used in the packaging of its smartphone products has been reduced by 95 percent since 2019. 

Moreover, OPPO introduced the self-developed Battery Health Engine to increase the lifespan of its batteries. Using this tech, the battery capacity was maintained as high as 80 percent even after 1600 charging-discharging cycles. The end result is this lessens battery waste.

The global Chinese brand also said that it has already established a product recycling system, offering trade-in services in domestic and international markets to promote the recycling and reuse of used mobile phones. The company claimed that it has recycled more than 1.2 million smartphones using the scheme to date in China.

OPPO also partnered with National Geographic to support the protection of endangered species through the OPPO Endangered Color Campaign and is one of the first brands to join the Eco Rating Labeling Scheme.

The brand also said that it has contributed to sustainable development, focusing on key areas such as digital inclusion, health and well-being, and youth empowerment like Color Vision Enhancement feature which offers 766 display profiles and provides personalized solutions for those who are visually impaired; and its Renovators Emerging Artists Project which aims to encourage young creatives to imagine how art and technology will intertwine in the future.

At its "Shape the Future" MWC 2022 event later, the company will showcase its innovative mobile technologies, latest achievements in AR and 5G, and success stories in sustainability.
