realme 9 Pro 5G Unboxing and First Impressions

Earlier, realme confirmed that the realme 9 Pro 5G will soon hit the Philippine smartphone market alongside the beefier 9 Pro+. To check if it is any good, the company sent us a unit to try ahead of launch. Here's are our unboxing and first impressions.

To recap, the realme 9 Pro 5G features a  a 6.6-inch 120Hz FHD+ IPS LCD screen, 2.2GHz 6nm Snapdragon 695 octa-core processor, 6GB or 8GB RAM + 5GB virtual RAM, 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, 5,000mAh battery, and a 64MP triple camera setup.

For the price, is it worth it? Let's check it out!

What's in the box?
What's in the box?

The realme 9 Pro 5G arrives in a box bearing the signature realme Yellow color. Inside, you get the gorgeous unit, a jelly case, paperwork, the 33W Dart Fast Charging wall charger, USB-C cord, and the SIM eject tool.

The inclusion of both the wall charger and protective case is a good thing to see from realme as more and more brands remove both from their packages. However, there are no earphones included.

Build Quality/Design

The realme 9 Pro features a glasstic back, glass front, and a plastic frame. Despite having a plastic frame, the realme 9 Pro feels solid and more premium for the price.

But, it has no mention of any kind of screen glass protection. It has no rubber gasket in the SIM card tray for water resistance and an IP rating as well.

realme could have done better in the materials they used, but this build feels decent enough for a mid-ranger.

Neat design as expected!

Going to the design, it is available in two colors in the PhilippinesSunrise Blue and Aurora Green. realme said that the Sunrise Blue version makes use of three photochromic layers that allows it to change colors from blue to red hues when exposed to direct sunlight.

The unit that we have is the Aurora Green colorway with a gorgeous glittery look. The camera island has a bit of a hump and looks quite nice.

The back panel is also curved to its side for a better grip. It is not slippery and prone to fingerprint smudges as well.

Yes, the back design is pretty but we highly recommend using the jelly protective case included that is transparent.

In front, there is the 6.6-inch IPS screen with 2400 x 1080 FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate with 6-levels available, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 405 ppi pixel density. It also has a punch-hole to house the selfie camera.

realme designed it this way to allow the device to have more screen real estate which resulted in a 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio for a more immersive viewing experience. Only the chin bezel is a bit thick.

It gets pretty bright which is usable even under direct sunlight. The colors are vibrant and the contrast is very good as well. It also has a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.

On top, it has a mic hole and nothing else. The bottom houses the USB-C charging port, 3.5mm headphone jack, another mic, and the speaker grille.

On the left side of the device, you will find the SIM card tray and volume buttons. The power button/fingerprint scanner is found on the right side.

The phone measures 164.3x 75.6 x 8.5 mm which is not too big for most. Because of the build, the phone is fairly light at 195 grams. But, it still feels premium in the hand. It has a certain heft to it that is comfortable yet reminds you of its presence.
realme 9 Pro's 64MP triple camera setup

At the back, you will find the triple-camera setup with a 64MP Nightscape camera, followed by an 8MP ultrawide sensor and a 2MP for macro shots. As for selfies, it has a 16MP module.

We are excited to try its 64MP triple-camera setup!

We will be testing the cameras soon. So, stay tuned!

As of the moment

So what are our first thoughts?
So what are our first thoughts?

The realme 9 Pro seems to be a good mid-range device on paper. It has attractive specs, 5G connectivity, a capable 64MP triple camera setup, a huge battery, and a good-looking design.

The 6.6-inch screen is also good at FHD+ with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The distinct Aurora Green color of our review unit is eye-catching with some specks of glitters as well.
