vivo V21e inspired? |
Here are our thoughts and a first experience with the new vivo affordable mid-ranger.
First of all, the new Y73 looks suspiciously close to the vivo V21e from 2021. To recap, the new phone has a 6.44-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. Inside is a 12nm MediaTek Helio G95 octa-core processor, Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB of storage and a 4,000mAh battery with 33W FlashCharge.
At the back is a 64MP triple-rear camera while in front is a 16MP selfie camera.
In the Philippines, it is priced at PHP 14,999.
Is it worth it? This is part 1 of our review. Let's dive in.
Unboxing/Accessories
|
Outer packaging |
The new vivo Y73 comes in the white box with a bright blue diagonal pattern with branding, key features, and regulatory information.
|
Box inclusions |
Inside is the phone, 33W wall charger, SIM ejector tool, USB Type-A to Type-C cable, bumper case, earphones, and documentation.
It is nice to see that vivo still includes a charger, a pair of earphones, and a silicone case inside the box. This has become a rarity in higher price smartphones.
Build Quality/Design
|
Rear design |
At first glance, the Y73 looks very similar to 2021's vivo V21e. It features a glass front panel, plastic back panel, and a polycarbonate inner-frame.
Decent materials, but there's no mention of glass protection...
Because of the polycarbonate frame and the glasstic back, the phone is super lightweight but is solid at the same time.
|
SIM tray |
Surprisingly, the SIM tray has rubber gaskets for water resistance. The phone may feature decent water and dust resistance. The tray can carry two nano-SIMs with one microSD card.
|
Display |
At the back, the phone curves which makes it easy to hold but it is slippery and is a fingerprint smudge magnet. We recommend wearing the included case right away.
Affordable vivo with AMOLED screen and more!
In front is a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a 2400 x 1080 resolution. Around the panel are slim top and side bezels. The chin bezel is slightly thicker. Above the display is the notch and above it is the slim earpiece.
The panel produces vibrant, sharp, and detailed images with decent brightness and okay contrast. It will be readable outdoors but may struggle under direct sunlight.
|
Top and bottom |
On top is a smooth surface while at the bottom are the speaker grills, microphone port, USB-C, and 3.5mm audio jack.
|
Left and right |
On the left side is the SIM tray while on the right side is the volume rocker and the power button that doubles as the fingerprint scanner.
The phone measures 161.24 x 74.37 x 7.38 mm and weighs 170 grams.
|
Rear cameras |
At the back are is the 64MP f/1.79 main camera, 2MP f/2.4 macro camera, 2MP f/2.4 bokeh sensor with an LED flash while on the punch hole is the front-facing 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera.
We have yet to try its cameras. Stay tuned!

vivo continues to release eye-catching smartphone designs and is slowly bringing them down to more affordable price points.
On paper, the new smartphone comes with the ever-popular MediaTek Helio G95 SoC and Mali-G76 GPU with 8GB RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 4,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging.
Let's not forget about the 64MP triple-rear camera and the 16MP selfie camera.
On paper, it is mostly good.
But, there are phones with better specs than this at this price point.
Generally, we are excited to put the phone thru its paces so stay tuned for the full review coming soon.
