PH internet is improving!

The country's Median Download Speed is up to 19.38 Mbps from 18.79 in February which is equivalent to a 3.14 month-on-month increase in mobile internet speed.

In July 2016 when President Duterte first took office, the average speed in PH is just 7.44 Mbps. So basically, it is a massive 160.48 percent improvement.

For Fixed Broadband, the Median Download Speed also improved to 52.16 Mbps from 49.10 Mbps month-on-month or a 6.23 percent increase versus February. It represents a whopping 559.42 percent improvement versus the recorded 7.91 Mbps last July 2016.

Ookla has yet to update its website to show these numbers and the current rank of PH in the global landscape.

To recap, the Department of Information and Communications Technology earlier attributed the improvements in the country's internet speeds to the July 2020 directive of the President to expedite the permitting requirements to support telcos with their intensified deployment of cellular towers.

Before this was implemented, telcos needed 25 permits and 8 months just to build a single cell site.
