Build Quality/Design

At first glance, the Watch D looks to be the most solid-looking and solid-feeling smartwatch Huawei has ever designed. It looks hefty but it is surprisingly lighter than it looks. It has that rugged but elegant look to it. This is because the body is actually made of metal.

Rugged but elegant look!

The main watch body is made of a combination of high-quality Aluminum, polycarbonate, and glass. The aluminum brings a premium sheen whenever the light hits it in a certain way. The glass panel is clear but is a fingerprint smudge magnet.

In front is the large 1.64-inch AMOLED display with a 456 x 280 resolution with a glass panel on top.

At the bottom of the watch case, you will find the main sensors, strap and airbag connections, strap release lever, and microphone.

On the left side of the case is a smooth surface while on the right are the home button and the health button. By default, the health button launches the Blood Pressure monitoring feature.

The strap can easily be removed to be washed or replaced. It is made of a malleable rubber that is lightweight and soft to the touch. Attached to the watch body and to the inner side of the longer strap is the cloth airbag. This airbag is what inflates to help measure blood pressure. It is the equivalent to the inflatable shoulder cuff and that traditional blood pressure sphygmomanometer.

The buckle and watch clasp is made of metal with shiny and matte finishing. It is solid and lightweight and it feels sturdy enough to last for a long time.

It measures 51 x 38 x 13.6 mm and weighs 40.9 grams. The body is rated for 5 ATM water resistance and it is IP68 water and dust resistance certified.

Initial set-up is easy and straightforward. However, you will need to download the Huawei Health app. It is available for Android 5.0 or later, iOS 9.0 or later, and HarmonyOS 2.0 or later.

During the initial set-up, we immediately noticed the responsiveness and accuracy of the touch screen.
Unique feature
Unique feature

Huawei says that the key features of the Watch D are the all-day blood oxygen monitoring (which is rare last year), seven-day battery life, advanced health-focused software features, and Blood Pressure monitoring.

We even tried the Blood Pressure monitoring feature and it was easy. All you do is tap the "measure" button. The watch will ask you to place your watch arm near heart level while your other arm will support the watch arm to keep still. It will then measure your blood pressure while you stop moving.

It managed to get 123 mmHg Systole and 87 mmHg Diastole. It's impressive out of the box.

The Huawei Watch D is looking to be the company's best smartwatch yet.

Aside from using a high-grade aluminum body, it is one of the few smartwatches that can measure Blood Pressure. Not to mention the other health-focused features like heart rate, Blood Oxygen, sleep, stress, and more!

Like other recent Huawei smartwatches, it is also compatible with Android and iOS, so you don't need to be locked in the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

Our only concern right away is the airbag. The airbag inflates to measure Blood Pressure. However, when not in use, it traps heat and caused us to sweat even after a few minutes of wearing the watch.

We will be testing the health-focused sensors and software features for our full review so stay tuned.

What do you guys think?
