Third telco player grows its subscriber base

DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano announced in a virtual briefing that the company is well-positioned to meet its internal subscriber growth expectations by "as early as October".

July last year we had one million subscribers and we are happy that July this year we have 10.3 million subscribers. We are slowly getting the market share and starting from a crawl to a walk to a run, Tamano said.

The group already covers more than 600 cities and municipalities nationwide and is targeting to further grow this number to about 800 areas. Within the month, the company expects to cover 70 percent of the country's population as part of its commitment to the Philippine government.

This will allow DITO to compete "head-to-head" against PLDT and Globe Telecom, the company's chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago said.

According to Ookla, the country's LTE performance has improved with DITO's presence—increasing from 11.15 Mbps in the first quarter of 2021 to 15.53 Mbps in the first three months of 2022.
