PLDT's new data center, Jupiter Cable system to boost PH hyperscale

As the Philippines becomes one of the most promising hubs in the Asia Pacific for hyperscale investments, industry giant PLDT is increasing its data center capacity to support the demand.

PLDT expands data center capacity in PH

Jabez Tan, head of Research for independent research firm Structure Research, said the local data center colocation market is now worth USD 134 million. The industry is expected to record a 25 percent compound annual growth rate through 2027.

PLDT, through its ICT arm ePLDT, is leading the capacity build with the construction of its 11th and largest hyperscale data center to date. VITRO Sta. Rosa is the first in a series of data center builds totaling a power capacity of 100MW.

We continue to build new facilities to serve the market demand that comes with the digitalization of the country while expanding our capacities in existing sites such as VITRO Makati 2, Paranaque, and Clark, said Amil Azurin, PLDT Enterprise VP and Head of Product Management for the Disruptive Business Group.

Amil Azurin, PLDT Enterprise VP and Head of Product Management for the Disruptive Business Group, also said that while the group continues to seek new facilities, it is also boosting the capacities of its existing sites, such as VITRO Makati 2, Paranaque, and Clark.

The telco player's latest investment in the Jupiter Cable System also complements its series of data centers.

Jupiter is now the fastest cable system between the Philippines and the US. It will fortify the international cable network diversity for the country and triple PLDT’s existing international network capacity to about 60 Terabit/s while directing massive data to PLDT’s network of data centers, said Ignacio.

The official also expressed confidence that PLDT can deliver a world-class hyperscale ecosystem for the country.
