This move will help its subscribers in the said region enjoy "fiber-fast" download speeds of up to 156.84 Mbps (nationwide average) with speed peaks of 342.7 Mbps.

Meanwhile, Globe's 5G network in Metro Manila has an average of 167.63 Mbps and a peak speed of 347.2 Mbps as of May

To recap, 5G is the next-generation connectivity standard bringing better speeds and reliability versus 4G.

Just in the first half of this year, Globe has already yielded 933 cell sites. As of the end of June, the company's 5G network has reached 85.8 percent of key cities in Visayas and Mindanao. In the National Capital Region (NCR), it has reached 96.6 percent of 5G outdoor coverage.

Data also showed that there is a steady hike in 5G usage in Mindanao, particularly Davao City, which almost tripled in June from January. There are hefty increases in Cagayan de Oro and the town of Libona in June.

We continue to invest in the latest mobile technologies like 5G as part of our commitment to bring better mobile experiences that can uplift the lives of our customers no matter where they are in the country, said Darius Delgado, Head of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business.

Nationwide, Globe booked a 73.4 percent jump in 5G data traffic from January to June this year. The number of Globe's 5G network also increased from 52.6 percent to 2.7 million from 1.62 million in January.

Globe also spent more than half (PHP 50.5 billion) of its PHP 89 million budget for capital expenditures (capex) this year.

The majority of the budget was used to build new cell sites, upgrade existing sites to 4G/LTE, accelerate the rollout of 5G connectivity, and ramp up the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.
