US FCC bans more Chinese communications equipment!

The sale or import of communications equipment that is regarded as a threat to US national security is prohibited by Federal Communications Commission regulations. Multiple actions have been taken by the Commission, Congress, and the Executive Branch to create a much more secure and robust supply chain for communications products and services in the US. The banned companies list includes HUAWEI, ZTE, Hytera, Hangzhou Hikvision, and Dahua among others. This also includes subsidiaries and affiliates of the banned companies.

The Secure Equipment Act of 2021, which US President Joe Biden signed in November, mandates that the Commission create these regulations. Additionally, the Commission published a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, which calls for additional feedback on the policies and practices prohibiting "covered" equipment. It requests feedback on potential changes to the Commission's program for competitive bidding. The Commission is looking for input on possible actions regarding current authorizations.

FCC measures to protect American networks are followed by new regulations. Along with the actions taken and the updated Covered List, the FCC has also made it illegal to use public funds to buy covered goods or services, started the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Reimbursement Program to remove unsafe hardware from American networks, revoked operating privileges for Chinese state-owned carriers in response to national security agency recommendations, and updated the procedure for submarine communications approval.

What do you guys think?
