Powerful enough to skip SD7+Gen1 and SD7Gen2?

Launched back in May 2022, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 was designed for the premium mid-range segment. Now, ten (10) months later, the Technologies giant announced the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. But do not worry, it isn't just you, the company did not announce nor does it make chipsets that are named Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 or the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.

The company claims that the new chipset offers exceptional improvements and performance gains across CPU, GPU, AI and power efficiency. It also brings in-demand experiences like on-device AI-enhanced experiences, powerful mobile gaming, photography, videography, audio and more.

Qualcomm says that the main Kryo CPU core is clocked at 2.91GHz and the whole 1+3+4 CPU package delivers 50 per cent faster performance over the SD7 Gen 1. While the unnamed GPU is boasting 2x performance gains while the power efficiency is seeing a modest 13 percent gain.

Included in the package is the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF system that is rated up to 4.4 Gbps download speeds with 'outstanding' power efficiency. It supports 5G/4G Dual-Sim Dual Active (DSDA) which means that it can utilize two SIMs when travelling or to separate work and personal communications. While the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity system offers up to 3.6Gbps in WiFi download speeds.

Inside the package is the 18-bit Triple iSP which allows users to capture in the mega low light mode where it takes 30 images and merges the best parts in one shot for brighter, clear and more colorful photos in the dark. It supports up to 200MP photo capture and staggered HDR video with triple exposure from two cameras simultaneously.

Lastly, commercial devices based on the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will be available this month, March 2023 with Redmi and realme being the first adopters.
