Rider's phone "explodes," leading to an accident

In a report by GMA News, authorities suspect that victim Jhonelle Paches's phone exploded which made him lose control of the motorcycle.

According to traffic enforcer Sharwen Ching-Tai, he saw the victim unconscious Sunday morning with the burnt smartphone on his side.

Pumasok sa isip ko nag short yung phone niya nagkaroon ng paso ang dito niya, dahil sa cellphone na napaso nawalan ng control yung driver, Ching-Tai said.

The victim's sister confirmed this.

On the scene po nakita nila wala ng malay ang kapatid ko at ‘yung cellphone na pumutok nakadikit pa po sa tiyan niya, she said.

Paches crashed into a pole, destroying his motorcycle and helmet.

The victim sustained a third-degree burn due to the explosion of his phone.

We suspect that it could be due to overheating. This happens due to various reasons. It could be due to a faulty battery or overloaded CPU that makes the battery of the phone work hard to help its components process tasks, among others.

To prevent such incidents, put your mobile phone in a safe place when traveling. Make sure that it is locked as well and that there are no running heavy tasks in the background.

The brand and exact model of the phone that exploded was not mentioned.
