Almost 60 percent complete
According to a report by ABS-CBN News, NTC Commissioner Jon Paulo Salvajan said 100,721,667 SIMs were already listed in their respective telcos.
The latest figure is 59.95 percent of the total number of active SIMs, he noted.
With this figure, Salvajan also said that NTC has already hit its soft target of 100 million registrations.
He urged the public to register before the July 25 deadline as mandated by Republic Act No. 11934 or the SIM Registration Act.
If you do not register by July 25, ma di-deactivate ang SIM ninyo. Hindi niyo na magagamit unless ipa-reactivate ninyo within a period of 5 days only, he said.
Failure to register SIM would lead to losing access to services, as well as to e-wallet systems.
You must go to payment service providers to reactivate your e-wallets, Salvajan noted.
SIM registration began in December and was supposed to end in April. This was extended until July due to low registration.
With the listing of SIM, the government hopes to address the proliferation of scammers who use SMS to take advantage of the public.
To register your SIM, simply go to your carrier's online platform or go to their store or booth to be assisted when doing the process.
When registering, you need to present a valid government-issued ID, a copy of which will be also submitted.
