The new SD4G2

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 revealed!

This will be the successor to the SD4G1 (6nm) which was also based on the SD480 with Adreno 619 GPU (8nm). Now the new chip highlights the Snapdragon X61 modem with support to 3GPP release 16 version of 5G and the first 4nm lithography in an SD 4-series.

The new processor has 2x performance cores with 2.2GHz frequency and 6x efficiency cores with a clock speed of 2.0GHz. With all that, the SoC gains a 10 percent improvement in terms of performance over the SD4G1.

Just like with Snapdragon's new-gen naming, they also did not reveal the Adreno GPU used here. It could likely be somewhat a tad improvement over the Adreno 619. Anyways, Qualcomm mentioned that it supports an FHD+ screen with 120 fps.

For memory, it now supports up to 3,200MHz LPDDR5X RAM and 2-lane UFS 3.1 storage.

The camera hardware support drops down to dual-ISP however, they added a new skill called Multi-Camera Temporal Filtering that will produce better noise reduction for videos.

Speaking of videos, it is still limited to 1080p 60 fps and 720p 120fps for slow motion. But it will support EIS. Qualcomm continued that it can handle 108MP resolution for the rear camera and 32MP for selfies with both having fast autofocus.

In terms of charging, it supports QC4+ which according to the firm can fill the battery to 50 percent in 15 minutes (still depends on the charger).

For connectivity, the chip is limited to WiFi 5 (2.4GHz/5GHz), and Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX codec.

Lastly, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 will arrive first in vivo and Xiaomi phones this H2 2023.
