In particular, the handset boasts a large 50MP f/1.4-2.0 main camera with OVH9000 sensor, a 50MP f/2.0 ultra-wide camera, and a 180MP f/2.6 Periscope 2-5x optical Telephoto camera with 100x digital zoom, OIS and an LED flash.
The front-facing camera has a 50MP selfie camera.
The stock camera app features the following modes: Photo, Video, Portrait, Night, Aperture, Movie, Pro, Light Painting, Super Macro, Scan Document, Panorama, Watermark, High-Res, Slow-Mo, Time-lapse, Multi-Video, and Story.
The included Pro Mode allows for controls of the following: Metering, ISO (50-6400), Aperture (1.4-2), Shutterspeed (1/6400- 30 seconds), EV (+-4), focus, and White balance.
We took the device for a spin in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Disneyland, and here are our shots.

Hong Kong Cable Car with the ultra-wide camera |
As expected from the specs, the daylight images from the 1x, 2.5x, 5x, and ultra-wide cameras perform exceptionally. The colors are on the warmer side while the contrast is good. The detail is plenty while being slightly over-sharpened.
The camera can zoom up to 100x digitally but we do not recommend using it even in daylight as images are consistently dull.

One of our favorite modes, Silky water also works well in daylight. It gave the moving water of the lake glass-like.

Indoors, the colors and contrast are good while the details are plenty. Surprisingly, the sharpness isn't as oversharpened as in daylight.

|
HONOR Magic6 Pro's Portrait mode |
The Magic6 Pro's Portrait mode managed to detect the subject and separate it from the environment. It only struggled with fine hair fibers. The artificial bokeh is smooth and pleasing.
|
HONOR Magic6 Pro's main camera close-up |
Close up, the sharpness, color, and contrast are on point. Because of the size of the sensor, the bokeh is pleasing with a smooth transition from in-focus to out-of-focus areas.

HONOR Magic6 Pro's 1x main camera low light with silky water mode |
|
In low light, the amount of noise is prominent but the image retains the majority of its sharpness and color accuracy. It isn't the cleanest image, but the definition of what is in the frame is there.
When used in low light, the silky water mode can create beautiful glass-like reflections from water sources. However, the detail and sharpness soften as a result. Otherwise, the colors are still on point.

|
HONOR Magic6 Pro's 2.5x telephoto camera low light |
When shooting a difficult scene like fireworks where lighting changes rapidly which ruins the exposure of some cameras, the HONOR Magic6 Pro performed well across different moments of the Disneyland Fireworks display.

HONOR Magic6 Pro's 1x main camera Night mode |
|
HONOR Magic6 Pro's 2.5x telephoto camera Night mode |
|
HONOR Magic6 Pro's 5x telephoto camera Night mode |
The Night Mode was able to reduce the noise and improve color accuracy, contrast, detail, and sharpness on the 1x, 2.5x, and 5x images. While the ultra-wide camera's night mode managed to clean up the majority of the image while improving noise levels, contrast, and color, it isn't as sharp or detailed as we would like.

Selfie night mode |
For selfies, we find its 50MP f/2.0 with 3D Depth camera to be consistent in terms of detail and sharpness but struggle with exposure consistency. In daylight, the sun was so bright that some of the environment had clipping highlights while the night mode also overexposed some parts of the scene. However, the indoor and low light got the exposure right.
One last thing we noticed is that even though the grain was more apparent, the details are still somewhat there.
What surprised us the most was its video capture capabilities. At Disneyland, a surprise pocket event where drones and fireworks were involved. The Magic6 Pro managed to record good-quality video and even better audio. There is noise and some loss of detail when uploaded to Facebook, but when you see the file itself, it is impressive for a smartphone.
Quick thoughts
As expected, the HONOR Magic6 Pro performed well in the majority of the scenarios. It managed to take photos that some phones will struggle to capture.
It also comes with an AI Motion Sensing Capture that detects fast movement in the frame and supposedly captures it. When we tried, even though we had athletes performing in front of the camera, the phone was not detecting them nor was it capturing photos.
Our main concern with the Magic6 Pro's cameras so far is the polishing of the software to make the shots consistent across the majority of the scenarios. We hope that a firmware update fixes the inconsistent overexposed images and the AI Motion Sensing Capture fast-moving object detection.
Our favorite feature so far is its video-capturing prowess. It captured decent video quality and even better audio quality in low light.
Watch out for our full review.
