Oona’s Smart Flight Delay Insurance now available on GCash

Financial technology firm GCash sealed a partnership with Oona Insurance Philippines to make the latter’s insurance product available on its mobile app.

GCash said that the deal was formalized during the signing of the memorandum of agreement in Taguig late last month.

Under the agreement, Oona's Smart Flight Delay Insurance would be available on GInsure Marketplace. The Smart Flight Delay provides travelers access to airport lounges if their flight gets delayed for at least 60 minutes. Availability of this product is very easy as passengers can get this insurance coverage at least two hours before their scheduled flights with just a few taps in the GCash app.

Winsley Bangit, GCash's VP, head of New Businesses Group, said the partnership was "very timely" amid the influx of passengers at airports during the summer season.

We expect a lot of our GCash users to travel to many destinations and for them to have insurance coverage against a real pain point, in what is supposed to be an exciting and much anticipated trip, is definitely a game changer, Bangit said.

Abhishek Bhatia, founder and chief executive officer of the Oona Insurance group, said the partnership would bring hassle-free travel to more Filipinos.

This is the first of many such innovative products we will be introducing soon, Bhatia added.

GCash currently has over 81 million users.
