TikTok owner launches Whee, its version of Instagram

TikTok parent company ByteDance has quietly launched its Instagram-like app called Whee.

Generally, it functions like Meta's Instagram.

According to the app description, Whee "is a new social app created to keep you connected with your close friends through life’s spontaneous moments."

Capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self, it added.

Based on app screenshots, Whee has photo filters and also allows users to add friends.

Just like Instagram, Whee users can share photos on their timelines. Only their friends can see it, like, and comment on the post.

Upon checking, the app is available for download via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in the Philippines.

We also tried making an account and it worked.

So far, Whee logged over 10K+ downloads on the Play Store. It requires Android 5.0 and up.

On the App Store, it is compatible with iPhones and requires iOS 12.0 or later.

There is no update yet on whether Whee will be accessible to more markets.
