DOE defaced by hackers
In a statement, the DOE revealed that its Government Energy Management Program website was "hacked and defaced" on Saturday night.
The department said it "immediately took the system offline," and is now in coordination with the Department of Information and Communications Technology as well as its system developer to fix the vulnerability issue.
We assure that the DOE is committed to keeping its systems secure and will continue to upgrade these systems, it said.
Manila-based DeathNote hackers claimed the cyberattack, saying it had no problem breaching the system.
It said the DOE's website was "[not] as secure as you think."
If a group like DeathNote Hackers, who operate with limited resources and experience compared to nation-state actors, can compromise your systems, it raises an alarming question: what could happen if Chinese hackers, who are known for their sophisticated cyber capabilities, decided to target you? the group said
It also warned that if the DOE did not address the website issue, it would publish the latter's data to a notorious hacking forum.
