Sky Cable, Converge ICT team up

Under the deal, Sky Cable, the pay television and broadband unit of ABS-CBN, would be allowed to "upgrade its network (SKY Fiber) and improve services to its subscribers" using Converge’s massive 700,000-kilometer fiber network.

Converge, meanwhile, expects that this could beef up its revenue stream.

Through the arrangement with Converge, we expect Sky and its subscribers to benefit from the world-class fiber network that Converge has built over the last few years, Sky president and chief operations officer Claudia Suarez said.

This will be a revenue boost for Converge consistent with similar arrangements with other players as we are able to continue to monetize further our excess network capacity, Converge president and co-founder Maria Grace Uy added.

Converge claimed that it has the country’s largest fiber-to-the-home network, reaching 16 million homes. It ended the first quarter with 2.3 million residential broadband subscribers.

We believe that this is the best way to move forward and stay focused on delivering superior customer experience, said Carlo Katigbak, ABS-CBN president and chief executive officer, and concurrent Sky director.
