Fast-growing telecommunications provider DITO Telecommunity’s upcoming True 5G home WiFi modem spotted in the wild.

In partnership with HUAWEI Technologies, DITO Telecommunity will offer a new device that supposedly unlocks the full potential of 5G with advertised speeds of up to 100Mbps at an affordable cost.

The new modem takes advantage of the latest 5G standards and its evolution called 5G RedCap Technology. It was originally called NR-light. The caveat is that it only works on 5G standalone networks. This allows it to offer higher capacity, maximum quality, and lower latency when compared to non-standalone 5G networks.

Globally, standalone 5G is only been used for industrial applications until now. DITO Telecommunity is bringing standalone or True 5G directly to Filipino homes. This makes it the first in the world of its kind.

The new WiFi device is easy to set up at home and is plug-and-play. Aside from being convenient to get running, it can be used by homes in areas that are underserved or where wired communications are absent.

DITO Home WOWFi is a prepaid, no-commitment wireless service with an initial kit costing Php 1,990, including unlimited 5G and 50GB 4G data for 30 days.

Monthly loads are Php 790, offering unlimited 5G and an extra 50GB of 4G data. If the customer continues to load PHP 790 without interruption for 10 months, they will receive a rebate automatically.
