Apple to pay USD 95 million over Siri privacy lawsuit

US tech giant Apple would cough up USD 95 million to settle a class-action case that stemmed from an eavesdropping issue involving its digital assistant Siri.

However, the group remained firm that Siri was not capable of listening to private conversations.

Apple has at all times denied and continues to deny any and all alleged wrongdoing and liability, the company said in its proposed settlement.

The issue surfaced after a class-action lawsuit was filed against the tech titan, alleging that Siri listens to conversations of users of iPhones, iPads, HomePods, or other Apple devices.

Based on the lawsuit, discussions captured by Siri were secured by Apple. It even claimed that Apple shared these conversations with third parties.

How much can users get? Apple said about USD 20 is allotted per Siri device to US owners who have their talks captured with permission.

A similar situation happened in 2023 when Amazon agreed to pay more than USD 30 million to the US Federal Trade Commission after it was accused of violating privacy with its Ring doorbell cameras and Alexa digital assistant.
