The HONOR X9c 5G is a slim and rugged smartphone with a massive 6,600mAh battery |
1. Bigger batteries are coming - 5,000mAh is the usual battery capacity we have seen in phones for the past few years. But, that is expected to change this 2025.
As a matter of fact, smartphone manufacturers have started launching devices with 5,500mAh to 7,000mAh capacities.
The reason behind this is the advent of new-generation Silicon-Carbon (Si-C) batteries with up to 34 percent higher energy density than traditional lithium-ion batteries.
The effect of this is smartphones, tablets, and other devices that will utilize this new solution will enjoy longer battery life
.
This is probably the biggest noticeable change on mobile devices this year.

2. Faster and more intelligent AI - AI will continue to get better this 2025 as nearly all major tech companies are investing heavily in this tech. Smartphone chips will continue to improve in-device AI capabilities to make them faster and more efficient and cloud-based AI will be even smarter.
The effect of this is we will see more AI features that could help in photo editing, creativity, real-time translation, object identification, and many more. AI will also continue to improve and optimize the performance of mobile devices to make their battery last longer, make the performance smoother, and generally make the experience of its users smoother and better for years.
Generative AI is expected to be more like a personal assistant that will help users be more productive and solve daily problems.

3. Camera button will become mainstream - Apple is not the first to do this, but they clearly popularized and re-introduced it in the smartphone space. We expect many mobile manufacturers to follow Apple's lead and use capacitive buttons to control the shutter and zoom of 2025 camera phones.
|
OPPO Find X8 Pro comes with two (2) periscope zoom cameras |
4. Camera zooms will improve drastically - We expect more phone manufacturers to use bigger and better camera sensors for zoom. Some makers will even utilize dual periscope zooms for DSLR-like Portrait shots and long-range 100x or more zooms.
This tech will make taking photos and videos from afar even better.

The TECNO CAMON 30 Premier 5G is a lab-tested durable yet slim smartphone |
5. Slimmer yet more durable designs - More and more mobile makers are expected to utilize more durable materials from the back cover, frame (maybe even titanium), and display. 2025 smartphones are expected to be more resistant to drops, shock, dents, cracks, and even extreme environments.
Manufacturers might also use higher IP68/IP69-rated designs to make smartphones even more resistant to dust and water.
These devices will be more durable without sacrificing their slimness. Even gaming phones are expected to be tougher and slimmer this year.

Bi-fold foldable phones like the HONOR Magic V3 will be slimmer as well.
Once again, we can expect a significant boost in performance due to the latest 3nm processors from Apple, MediaTek, and Qualcomm.
4G phones will not go away yet, but 5G will be more mainstream. Even entry-level phones will feature faster 5G connections.
Software support might be longer even on mid-range Android phones.
