Delays continue to hunt National ID printing
According to a report by ABS-CBN News, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) needs additional funding to address its 36 million National ID backlog.
We are working on a decentralized printing so we will try to wipe out that backlog if given additional budget because our approved NEP (National Expenditure Program) cannot support yung full printing of these 36 million cards, Deputy National Statistician Rosalinda Bautista was quoted in the report.
So far, 55 million cards of the 91.7 million who registered until the end of last year have been distributed.
The official said there is also no new supplier for the physical ID cards, but after the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas terminated its contract with AllCard Incorporated in August last year,
Aside from the physical card, Bautista said Filipinos can also get their ePhilID and the digital national ID as long as they are registered.
Meanwhile, the PSA also teamed up with BPO firm Pilipinas Teleserv which operates the PSA helpline. This marks the integration of the national ID database into the helpline system for easier and secure verification of the identity of applicants and document recipients.
With this integration, if they upload a national ID before they make the application with us, we verify their personality. When you register for a national ID, they capture your photo, iris, other facial biometric. That’s what we use to validate, said Pilipinas Teleserv Managing Director Jun Yupitun.
