According to a recent advisory by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the use of power banks during flights is prohibited due to recent incidents involving in-flight fires.
Nevertheless, passengers are still permitted to bring power banks to charge their devices once they have disembarked at their destinations.

The passenger must strictly follow the following:

  1. Passengers can bring power banks up to 100Wh (watt-hour). AirAsia Philippines allows up to 2 power banks, each not exceeding 100 watt-hours.
  2. If you have power banks with 100Wh to 160Wh capacity, prior approval is required at the check-in counter
  3. Use and charging of power banks during flights is strictly prohibited
  4. The power bank must be kept inside their bags for the entirety of the flight.
  5. The power bank is not allowed to be stored in overhead compartments

Airlines like AirAsia Philippines will remind guests of the policy before boarding. Passengers found using power banks on board will receive a warning. The device will be confiscated and returned upon landing if non-compliance persists.

Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific advised passengers to securely pack their power banks by taping the terminals, using the original packaging, or placing them in plastic bags or pouches.

To be more sure, avoid bringing defective power banks or batteries. Some of the signs include swelling or building of the case, overheating when not in use, strange odor like burning or chemical smell, and leaking fluids, among others.
