Micrsoft launches Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13 with Snapdragon X Plus chips

Microsoft revealed its 2025 version of Surface devices, known as the Surface Pro 12 and Laptop 13.

The Surface Laptop 13

New slim productivity notebooks

The Surface Laptop 13 is the brand's slimmest and lightest laptop yet, measuring 285.65 x 214.14 x 15.6 mm and weighing 1.22kg. This was made possible thanks to the anodized aluminum chassis material used. Meanwhile, it is available in Ocean, Violet, and Platinum colorways.

In terms of display, it uses a 13-inch FHD touch panel with thin bezels and has an AI-enhanced web camera with auto video HDR and noise reduction.

Inside, it uses a Snapdragon X Plus processor with Adreno GPU, and Qualcomm Hexagon NPU boasting 45 TOPS of AI power.

Meanwhile, it is paired with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB storage options and has up to 23 hours of battery life, atleast when playing local videos or 16 hours for active web use.

Other features mentioned are dual studio microphones and omnidirectional speakers with Dolby Audio.

Moving forward, the smaller Surface Pro 12 is a 2-in-1 unit with either laptop or tablet modes. It has an adjustable kickstand at the back and supports a detachable keyboard for typing. Meanwhile, you can also use a Surface Slim pen for drawing, notes, and other related tasks.

The 2-in-1 device is available in Slate, Ocean, and Violet color options, while its design makes it suitable for travelling.

The Surface Pro 12

The display is a 12-inch LCD touch screen with 2196 x 1464 resolution at 220 PPI, 3:2 aspect ratio, and 90Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, there's also a 10MP camera for your video calls.

Similarly, it boasts the same Snapdragon X Plus chip and is paired with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB/512GB storage.

Microsoft claims it can last up to 16 hours of video or up to 12 hours of web browsing.

Other features mentioned are dual studio mics and 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.

Both models support WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 with LE audio.

As for ports, the Laptop 13 uses 2x USB-C with charging, DP 1.4a, Thunderbolt 4 support, 1x audio jack, and 1x USB-A 3.1.

The Surface Pro 12 shares similar 2x USB-C ports and identical features, but minus the USB-A.

For OS, both run Windows 11 Home and have access to CoPilot+ PC for improved productivity.

Both devices will become available in select markets starting May 20, 2025.
