Globe expands mobile network

In a statement, the telco giant said it has expanded mobile connectivity in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) and underserved communities. This move was in support of the government’s Bayanihan SIM initiative, which provides mobile access to students, teachers, health workers, and LGUs in remote communities.

According to the group, 7,063 barangays are classified as GIDAs, with about 25 million residents.

Data from the government also showed that only 33 percent of households nationwide were subscribed to fixed broadband. Mobile connectivity in far-flung areas is also "unreliable or unavailable," leaving some Filipinos excluded from the booming digital space.

We're no longer connecting only where it's profitable—we’re connecting where it matters most. We’re building more than infrastructure—we’re enabling opportunity. We are opening doors for millions of Filipinos to participate meaningfully in the digital economy, Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz said.

Globe ended 2024 with 600 operating cell sites in these underserved areas.
