HUAWEI nova 16, 16z launched: Kirin 8020, up to 7,000mAh batteries, and 50MP main camera

HUAWEI launched the nova 16 and nova 16z in China, apart from the Pro and Ultra models.

In terms of display, the nova 16 features a 6.68-inch OLED panel with 2800 x 1280 resolution, while the nova 16z steps down slightly to a 6.7-inch OLED panel at FHD+ resolution. Both screens support a 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz PWM dimming for reduced flicker.

The nova 16 is driven by the Kirin 9010S chipset, whereas the Nova 16z runs on the Kirin 8020, positioning it a tier below in the lineup.

For the battery, the base model uses a 7,000mAh battery with 100W wired charging support. On the other hand, 16z carries a slightly smaller 6,000mAh cell but matches its sibling with the same 100W charging speed.

The nova 16's rear camera system consists of a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera with optical image stabilization, and a Red Maple color sensor. 

Meanwhile, the 16z offers a 50MP main camera paired with a 12MP RYYB telephoto portrait camera with OIS and a Red Maple color sensor. 

Both devices also feature a 50MP front camera for selfies and video calls, along with AI-assisted photography tools and HDR Vivid video recording.

Other features are infrared remote control, side-mounted fingerprint sensors, stereo speakers, and access to Huawei's Xiaoyi assistant ecosystem for on-device AI experiences.

 AI-powered image editing and AI-assisted composition are available on both models.

Connectivity-wise, the nova 16 and 16z support WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, two-way BeiDou satellite messaging, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and Star Flash connectivity.

Finally, both phones ship with HarmonyOS 6.1 preloaded.

These phones are currently available in China. No word yet for the PH release at the moment.
