Maya supports DSWD's shift to digital payouts under UPLIFT assistance program

Digital payouts open banking access

Maya is supporting the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) transition of its UPLIFT Assistance beneficiaries to digital payouts, aimed at expanding their access to savings and other formal financial services.

Maya teams recently assisted beneficiaries on the ground in Navotas City and Quezon City, helping with account setup and verification ahead of upcoming digital payouts.

Under UPLIFT, DSWD provides financial assistance to around 2.5 million poor, near-poor, and low-income Filipino households, while expanding digital channels to make support delivery more convenient, efficient, and accessible.

Angelo Madrid, president of Maya Bank, said the opportunity goes beyond digitizing the payout itself. Once people have a digital financial account, he said, they can start using other services to save, make payments, and manage their money better, calling it an important part of building financial health over time.

Beneficiaries who choose Maya as their digital channel can use their account for everyday payments and, subject to applicable requirements, access savings and credit through Maya Bank. Maya said this can turn a government payout into a broader entry point to formal financial services, while leaving beneficiaries in control of their money.

The initiative supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' financial inclusion agenda, which aims to move beyond basic account access toward deeper use of financial services and improved financial health. The BSP's National Strategy for Financial Inclusion specifically encourages digital solutions for government cash-transfer and social safety-net programs.

Maya said it continues to support government initiatives where digital finance can make essential services more accessible and give more Filipinos the opportunity to join the formal financial system.
