Ban on sites showing violent content

The move is part of their broader effort to curb online platforms that spread extreme violence and keep their networks safe, particularly for children and young people who are increasingly exposed to harmful content online.

PLDT said the list of banned sites will expand as it flags new ones through its own monitoring and with help from government agencies, child‑protection groups, and parenting communities.

The blocks are enforced at the network level, cutting access for all PLDT and Smart subscribers.

The initiative expands PLDT's child protection programs, including blocking child abuse sites.

This is something we do not tolerate, said PLDT Chief Operating Officer Butch Jimenez. We have decided to ban these kinds of sites preemptively, as soon as they are discovered. Our networks will not be used as a channel for content that glorifies violence and puts our communities, especially our children, at risk.

There is no debate to be had here, Jimenez added. Content that turns real-world violence into entertainment has no place on our networks and in our society, and we will keep acting decisively every time we find it.

Possible benefits of the ban once implemented

  • Reduced exposure to harmful content - Prevents subscribers, especially children, from accessing violent footage
  • Strengthened child protection - Aligns with ongoing efforts to safeguard minors online
  • Safer digital environment - Promotes responsible internet use across the network
  • Deters harmful site operators - Discourages platforms from hosting violent or exploitative material
