vivo X500 launched: 3nm Dimensity 9600M, 50MP LYTIA-828, Lipstick 200 teleconverter lens

vivo has officially launched the X500 in China at its X500 series launch event.

vivo's new flagship Series goes official

The device sits below the X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max in the lineup but shares several features with its pricier siblings, including Zeiss camera technology, a large battery, and MediaTek's latest chipset.

The 4 colorways

The phone is available in four colors: Earth Echo, Sunny Day, Dawn, and Night. vivo is also offering a special Sunny Day package that pairs a matching finish with a liquid-themed interface, a movie-style color profile, and dedicated background music for the phone's photo album, along with other coordinated software elements. 

Additionally, the X500 measures 8.15mm thick and weighs 211 grams in the Earth Echo, Sunny Day, and Dawn colors, while the Night version weighs 213 grams.

In front, the X500 features a 6.59-inch flat OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. The LTPS panel reaches up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness, and it supports 2,160Hz PWM dimming for reduced flicker at lower brightness levels.

Inside, it uses the  4.21GHz 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9600M chipset with a Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU. 

The features

It is paired with vivo's Blueprint Imaging Chip V3+ for additional image processing, along with 12GB of RAM, LPDDR5X Ultra memory, and UFS 4.1 storage in 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB configurations. 

vivo also claimed the phone will maintain smooth performance for up to 72 months, though actual results will likely depend on usage patterns and future software updates.

Furthermore, X500 houses a 7,500mAh battery and supports Bypass Charging 2.0.

On the camera front, the phone carries a 50MP main sensor, a 1/1.28-inch Blueprint Sony LYTIA-828 unit built with ZEISS optics, which supports ZEISS gimbal-level image stabilization with a CIPA 5.5 rating. 

For ultra-wide, it uses a 50MP f/2.0  camera. The third unit is a 64MP Sony LYTIA 610 telephoto camera offering a 72mm equivalent focal length, 3x optical zoom, CIPA 5.5 stabilization, and a minimum focusing distance of 15cm. 

vivo also sells optional zoom accessories for the phone, including the "Lipstick 200" teleconverter and a 200mm Zeiss Teleconverter G2 that provides 2.35x magnification. 

For video, vivo claims the X500 can record 4K footage at 120fps for slow motion and supports native 4K cinematic Live with movie-style color profiles. 

The company added that it is also the first smartphone in the industry to support native 8K Live, and it has partnered with platforms such as Weibo to simplify sharing that content.

Other hardware includes an ultrasonic 3D fingerprint sensor, an IR blaster, and IP68 and IP69 ingress protection ratings.

For connectivity, the X500 includes WiFi 7, 5G, 4G, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and dual SIM.

For OS, the phone runs on OriginOS 7. The new UI introduces a liquid-themed interface and a bouncier animation when unlocking via the touchscreen. 

The software also applies matching visual effects to photos uploaded to the device, integrating them into the interface's overall design.

The vivo X500 is currently available in China. No word yet on other markets at the moment.
