Xiaomi Watch S5 41mm launched: Smaller case, 1.32-inch AMOLED, 150+ sports mode

Xiaomi has expanded its wearable lineup with a 41mm Watch S5, giving buyers a more compact option alongside the 46mm model launched earlier this year. 

The new watch is notable as the first device to run HyperOS 4 for wearables and includes refreshed WeChat integration.

The Watch S5 41mm is built around a 1.32-inch AMOLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi states the display can hit a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, a figure meant to keep the screen legible under direct sunlight.

At 9.9mm thick and 36 grams without the strap, the watch pairs a stainless steel case with a ceramic bezel and a textured crown. It will be available in three finishes: Black, Sea Salt Blue, and Ceramic White.

For biometric monitoring, the device relies on a four-LED, four-photodiode sensor setup to measure heart rate and blood oxygen levels. 

The features

It also carries three wrist-based temperature sensors, which Xiaomi claims are accurate to within ±0.1°C. These are primarily designed for menstrual cycle tracking and ovulation prediction.

Meanwhile, a separate dual-band UVA/UVB sensor rounds out the health features, measuring UV intensity to give users a clearer picture of sun exposure.

On the fitness side, the watch supports more than 150 sport modes for indoor and outdoor activities. A dual-frequency GNSS chip enables more accurate route tracking, and the device offers full-color offline maps for navigation without a paired phone. 

Xiaomi has also added a ski-specific mode that logs distance, altitude, and top speed on the slopes, along with fall detection that can trigger an alert or contact emergency services if the wearer doesn't respond.

Running HyperOS 4, the watch ships with an updated WeChat app that adds voice-to-text input and quick-reply options. 

It also ties into Xiaomi's broader ecosystem, letting users control smart home devices, check smart doorbell footage, and access certain vehicle functions directly from the wrist. While the watch works with iOS and syncs with Apple Health, Xiaomi notes that some features are limited to Android or other Xiaomi devices.
