Xiaomi Mi 5X behind |
In terms of build, aesthetics, and ergonomics, the Xiaomi Mi 5X reminds us of the OnePlus 5 and Cloudfone Excite Prime 2 Pro. It's simply beautiful, minimalist, sturdy. It is also very slim at just 7.3 mm. The screen in front is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
Xiaomi must be lauded w/ the way they crafted this gorgeous handset!
In front, it has a big 5.5 inch IPS 2.5D curved display w/ sharp and vivid full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 or 401 pixels per inch. It has great colors, good brightness, and nice viewing angles.

Inside, powering this phone is Qualcomm's trusty 64 bit Snapdragon 625 octa core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz. It's the same chipset found on the ZenFone 3 w/ very underrated performance.
The processor is paired w/ Adreno 506 graphics. That GPU is good enough to load most of the heavy 3D games on high settings. Yes, it can run NBA 2K17 on all high settings at times.
Xiaomi coupled it w/ 4 GB of RAM for smooth multitasking and ample 64 GB of expandable storage where you can store many apps, games, music, and other files. On the battery part, it only has 3,080 mAh of juice. But, don't underestimate it. Usually, Snapdragon 625 powered phones are very battery efficient. The battery is rechargeable thru USB Type C.
On the camera part, it has a dual camera setup. It consists of a 12 MP f/2.2 Sony IMX386 and a 12 MP f/2.6 telephoto lens w/ 2x optical zoom. It also has PDAF and dual tone LED flash. From our quick try, it's a very speedy shooter w/ great colors and sharpness coming from its auto HDR mode. It even has portrait mode for bokeh effects and 2x optical zoom.
In front, it has an 5 MP f/2.0 selfie camera that can produce decent selfies in daylight.
The rest of the features
The rest of the specs includes fingerprint scanner behind, WiFi, LTE w/ VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, A GPS, and dual SIM.
It even has an IR blaster that you can use as remote for TV, Air-con, and etc. Moreover, it has gyroscope sensor for AR and VR apps.
The phone boots w/ Android 7.0 Nougat OS w/ the feature rich MIUI 9 skin on top.

So far, we are very impressed w/ the Mi 5X. It has the potential to be the best handset in terms of performance and cameras for its class. Build is close to top notch, specs are great for a midranger, and the cameras ranks among the best for its class.
Hopefully, Xiaomi will officially sell this locally.
