Aside from the standard Flare S6, Cherry Mobile announced this phone and is marketed as the selfie centric bigger brother. One of the highlighting features is the new Cherry OS and the 16MP Samsung S5K3P3 f/2.0 cameras on both sides and the high fidelity DAC inside.

So we are excited to take this phone out!

Unboxing / Accessories

Everything inside
Everything inside

The trend of Cherry Mobile improving their packaging is reflected here. It even has this red ribbon tab that adds a layer of premiumness when you unbox your phone.

Inside are the phone, a 1.5A USB wall charger, USB to USB-C cable, IEM earphones, SIM ejector tool, and the documentation.

Build Quality / Design

iPhone inspired back design
iPhone inspired back design

Cherry Mobile clearly drew inspiration from the iPhone 6S for the outer shell design of the Flare S6 Selfie as it has the curved textured metal back with antenna lines on top and at the bottom.

It feels solid and the texture helps prevent the phone from slipping!

The unibody design is mostly made of metal chamfered edges where the metal meets the glass panel. The 2.5D 5.2-inch FHD IPS display is not certified by corning gorilla glass.

The bezels are okay for its price! It doesn't distract too much and it's too demanding to want 18:9 displays at this price point. This is as good as it can get.

Safe design for 2017 at this price point!

I like how the subtle texture prevents slipping. It's not the prettiest back out there but there isn't much competition to this design.

The back curves and although the edges on the both side are rounded it does feel a little sharp when grasping the phone tightly. Otherwise we like how solid and lightweight it feels!

Good Job Cherry Mobile!

Initial Findings

Samsung main camera
Samsung main camera

1. Build is quite premium for the price. The display is 5 point multitouch 5.2-inch FHD with good colors, resolution and refresh rates.
2. The camera and the battery are the ones to suffer from the pre-production software as it still needs fine tuning. The battery would last for 5 to 6 hours from full charge to zero.
3. Pre-production software is 90% good to go. Cherry OS is beautiful pretty but they could give us an option to have the standard grid for the app drawer and the alphabetical option. Cloning Apps is a god send for when you want to use the same app with two different accounts like for family and for work with apps like Uber.
4. The camera tends to easily overexpose highlights. It was mentioned that the day one version of the OS would have fixed these. It also adds Pro Mode. It has flash at the back and in front.
5. It has OTG, gyroscope, light sensor, and LED for notification.

As of the moment

Currently, the pre-production software of Cherry OS on the Flare S6 selfie is the only thing holding this phone back. If Cherry Mobile does polish all these things out by release then this phone could be a wild card at the price of PHP 7,999.
