In a statement, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) earlier reminded the public that reproducing Philippine banknotes without prior authorization is illegal.

Do not photocopy PH banknotes

The BSP may only authorize the reproduction of banknotes for educational, historical, or numismatic purposes that help promote currency integrity, subject to the conditions prescribed under the circular.

To recap, reproducing any Philippine banknote image without BSP approval is punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison under BSP Circular 829 (2014).

BSP issued the reminder after viral posts misused a lawyer’s impeachment‑trial remark—where photocopied documents may be accepted as original evidence in court—with some claiming photocopied peso bills could be legal tender.

It's against the law—even if done as a joke.
