Unboxing/Accessories

Our review unit arrived with just the handset itself. But according to OPPO's website, the F7 Youth will come with a 2A USB wall charger, USB to micro USB data/charging cable, SIM ejector tool, TPU clear case, pre-installed screen protector, and paper documents.

Build Quality/Design

Glossy back design
Glossy back design

The construction of this device reminds us of the higher-end F7. It still has the mostly polycarbonate plastic build with glossy glass-like acrylic material at the back. In front, it has a 6-inch FHD+ 18:9 screen with 2.5D curved glass protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 technology.

Elegant looking construction!

The device is well machined in general. It should be durable enough to survive few drops. Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 technology is one of the toughest around as well. It even has a screen protector on top.

To nitpick, we noticed that the screen protector's edges are a bit sharp if you will hold the handset without the case.

In terms of design, it'll come with versions, the diamond black design and the solar red. The one with minimalist solar red color is like the regular F7 while those who will get the more aggressive diamond black variant will get a design like the F7 128GB.

Unlike the F7, it has no notch anymore. Most will like this type of design instead. The bezels are still not that big despite the lack of notch. The side, top, and bottom bezels are still much smaller than most phones traditional 16:9 screen. It has a total of 84.8 percent screen to body ratio.

Ergonomically, this 6-inch phone is just as big as traditional 16:9 devices. It only measures at just 156 x 75.3 x 7.8 mm. Thanks to its 18:9 screen aspect ratio. As a result, it feels good to hold as a whole.

Thanks to its 19:9 screen aspect ratio and 88 percent screen-to-body ratio, the phone looks way smaller for its big 6.23-inch screen size. The body size of the OPPO F7 is comparable to traditional smartphones with 5.5-inch screen.

As expected, it has all the usual ports and buttons including the important 3.5 mm headphone jack. It is still on micro USB though. Hopefully, OPPO will use the current USB Type-C standard in the near future.

Initial findings

Over 140K!

1. The OPPO F7 Youth goes with a beautiful design. It would have been better if the material they used is metal. But for the high FHD+ screen resolution and powerful specs for the price, we are not complaining.

2. Like the OPPO F7, the F7 Youth loads with the powerful 2.0GHz 64-bit Helio P60 octa-core processor,  dual-core A.I. chips, and Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. As a result, it is crazy fast for the price. This is the speediest device for gaming and casual usage under PHP 15K right now.

Plus, despite its PHP 4K lower price tag versus the OPPO F7, the F7 Youth still has 4GB RAM, 64GB expandable storage, and 3,400mAh battery.

It is impressive since the cost of RAM and ROM now is quite high.

3. It still has OPPO's revamped Android 8.1 Oreo OS with ColorsOS 5.0. The swipe down for shortcuts and notifications is back and it is cleaner looking than ever. Bloats are almost non-existent.

4. On the camera part, it has a 13MP f/2.2 PDAF shooter at the back and an 8MP f/2.2 selfie camera with A.I. Beauty Recognition 2.0 and screen flash in front.

According to OPPO it can also identify 16 different scenes and objects and automatically adjust the brightness, exposire, color, and contrast to help you take great images always.

It also has the new super vivid mode at the back and in front. We also like that it shoots good photos for the price. The selfie cam at 8MP can compete with other phones with higher megapixel size.

It also has the A.I. Beauty Recognition 2.0 technology which can learn beautification preferences based on edits on your photo album.

5. This device also has OTG, accurate face unlock, and FM Radio. Like the F7, the F7 Youth has no LED notification. Unfortunately, OPPO failed to add a fingerprint scanner at the back as well.

As of the moment

The OPPO F7 Youth is the speediest phone at this price point. It could be the very best for gaming and multitasking under PHP 15K. It even has great design and cameras so far.
