The group is allegedly backed by investments from the government and state-owned China Telecom Corp., while Chinese tech giant Huawei would handle the rollout of its network infrastructure.
Update: Converge would be partnering with a local firm and South Korea's telco giant KT Corp instead.

Filipino consumers might expect to hear the official announcement before the year ends.
The source noted in the fourth quarter it would start to service Metro Manila with LTE, then expand it to North and South Luzon by early next year.
For the second to last quarter of 2019, ICT Converge would expand the services to Visayas and Mindanao.
All services use Over-the-Air technology so there would be no cabled internet. For homes, the TD-LTE technology via LTE will be used.
Previous reports stated that the government is targeting to reveal the third telco by October as part of the current administration's efforts to improve broadband connectivity in the Philippines.
While the government has yet to release its statement regarding this leak, take this rumor with a pinch of salt until anything official is disclosed.
