On paper, the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) arrived with some of the most impressive back and front camera specs found on a mid-range smartphone.
 |
Dual cam goodness! |
At the back, it has a "lowlight capable" dual camera setup which consist of a 16MP f/1.7 primary shooter and a 5MP f/1.9 depth sensor. The f/1.7 lens allows more light in for better shots at night versus most mid-range phones with smaller f/1.8 and above lenses.
 |
Neat camera UI |
The secondary depth sensor allows this phone to use the Live Focus camera mode for "DSLR-like" depth or bokeh background blur effect.
For selfies, it goes with a 16MP f/1.9 bright snapper with background blur effect, cute stickers, and softlight LED flash.

Night selfie |
The back cameras of the Galaxy J8 (2018) is arguably the best on a J series smartphone yet.
Most of the images that we took are well exposed and has crisp details. Colors are also punchy even in some of our indoor shots.
The depth effect of the Live Focus mode is surprisingly good as well. It has creamy background blur effect.
For dim and lowlight shots, the camera performance is still quite impressive. It still has sharp details with respectable dynamic range. Expect it to have some grain though. But, expect it to be lesser than most mid-range camera phones.
The selfie camera has great performance too. We have few selfies with slightly washed colors, but most of the time, it has crisp details and close to natural looking colors. The stickers and portrait mode are fun to use too. Its face beauty is not that aggressive and it is usable in lowlight as well.
So far, quite good!
