More powerful than Kirin 980 and will have 5G?

Based on the report by CNMO in China, HiSilicon, the sub-brand of Huawei, will unveil the Kirin 990 chipset by the first quarter of 2019.

It will be the first processor of the company with a dedicated 5G modem designed to take care of the upcoming next generation mobile data speeds next year. It is said to feature the Balong 5000 modem, a chip certified for 5G speeds.

Industry sources stated that TSMC will manufacture that chip. HiSilicon will also invest more than USD 28 million in research and development. Like the Kirin 980, it will come with the Cortex-A76 cores and will have 10 percent performance boost and consume 10 percent less power than predecessor.

If the reports regarding its first quarter of 2019 production is accurate, then we could see it on upcoming Huawei devices by H2 2019.

Huawei has no comment yet regarding the validity of this report though.

Let's take it with a pinch of salt until anything official is disclosed.
